HOW STEVE JOBS WAS FIRED FROM APPLE IN 1985

In the annals of tech history, Steve Jobs is often hailed as a visionary, the man who revolutionized the way we interact with technology.

But behind the glossy facade of Apple’s success lies a tumultuous tale of corporate politics, power struggles, and Jobs’ own ousting from the company he co-founded.

It all started in 1985, a pivotal year for Apple Inc. The company was riding high on the success of the Macintosh, but behind the scenes, tensions were brewing. At the heart of the conflict was a power struggle between Jobs and the CEO at the time, John Sculley.

Sculley, recruited by Jobs himself from PepsiCo to bring his marketing prowess to Apple, soon found himself at odds with the mercurial co-founder. Their clash of personalities and diverging visions for the company set the stage for a showdown that would change the course of Apple’s history.

The tipping point came when Jobs attempted to oust Sculley from his position as CEO. In retaliation, the Apple board, with Sculley at the helm, made a decisive move against Jobs. They stripped him of his managerial duties and effectively sidelined him within the company.

For Jobs, the blow was devastating. Here was the man who had poured his heart and soul into Apple, only to be pushed aside by the very board he helped assemble. In a dramatic turn of events, Jobs resigned from Apple, leaving behind the company he had helped build from the ground up.

But Jobs was not one to be kept down for long. Undeterred by his ousting, he went on to found NeXT Inc., a computer company focused on high-end workstations. Though NeXT struggled to gain traction in the market, it laid the groundwork for Jobs’ triumphant return to Apple years later.

Meanwhile, Apple faced its own share of challenges in the wake of Jobs’ departure. With its visionary leader gone, the company floundered, struggling to innovate in an increasingly competitive market. A series of missteps and failed product launches left Apple’s future uncertain.

It wasn’t until 1997 that the tide began to turn for Apple. By this time, the company was on the brink of collapse, its market share dwindling, and its once-loyal customer base waning. In a bold move to save the company, Apple acquired NeXT, bringing Jobs back into the fold.

Jobs wasted no time in asserting his influence upon his return to Apple. He quickly rose through the ranks, eventually reclaiming his position as CEO in 1997. Under his leadership, Apple underwent a remarkable transformation, releasing a string of groundbreaking products that would reshape the tech landscape.

From the iPod to the iPhone, Jobs’ second stint at Apple was nothing short of legendary. He cemented his status as a tech icon, leading the company to unprecedented success and securing his place in history as one of the greatest innovators of our time.

But amidst the glitz and glamour of Apple’s resurgence, the story of Jobs’ departure from the company he helped build remains a cautionary tale of the perils of corporate politics and the fragility of power. It serves as a reminder that even the most brilliant minds are not immune to the machinations of the boardroom.
